Massachusetts Student Government Day

Congratulations to junior, Olivia Langevin, who was selected by her peers to represent Cohasset High School at the State House for Massachusetts Student Government Day!

In 1947, the Massachusetts Legislature enacted a program called Student Government Day (originally Good Government Day). This is an informative program about state government, that includes students participating in the role of elected or appointed officials to "observe the processes of government."

The program provides educators and students from Massachusetts's public and private high schools with many opportunities to learn first hand about state government. It enables government officials to have contact with students. It allows students to voice their positions on important current issues through prepared debates. It enables students to participate in the legislative process through simulated committee hearings and House and Senate formal sessions. It provides the opportunity for students to exchange views with their peers throughout the state on statewide issues.

CMHS Learning Commons introduces new kiosk!

The CMHS Library Learning Commons has a new catalog kiosk! Using funds from a previous CEF Grant to update and modernize our library, the library purchased a standalone kiosk that gives touch screen access to our library catalog. Now students and staff can walk into our school library and instantly search our catalog for fiction and non-fiction books. The kiosk will identify the location of a book and if a book is on the shelf or checked out. Needless to say, students are really enjoying this new technology that empowers them to find what they need in our school library.
