Masking at Deer Hill Elementary School

This morning (2/7/2022), we received official permission from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for masking to be optional for all students and staff at Deer Hill Elementary School. In following Cohasset School Committee policy, masking is optional, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, February 8, 2022, for all Deer Hill staff and students, regardless of their vaccination status.

At last Wednesday evening’s Cohasset School Committee Meeting (2/2/2022), the Cohasset School Committee voted to adjust the masking / face covering policy to make masking optional for all students and staff at Deer Hill School, once official approval was received from DESE. This policy adjustment was made in conjunction with the DESE and the Department of Health (DPH) allowance for schools that have reached the 80% vaccination threshold. In adopting the DESE guidance, the Cohasset School Committee highly recommends that unvaccinated individuals continue to mask at Deer Hill School.

Some additional reminders regarding masks:

  • In conjunction with the DESE mask mandate extending through February 28, 2022, masking is still required for all students and staff at Joseph Osgood Elementary School. Like Deer Hill Elementary School, Cohasset Middle School, and Cohasset High School, if and when Joseph Osgood reaches the 80% fully vaccinated threshold status, a determination can be made by the Cohasset School Committee regarding masking requirements.
  • All students and staff, in all of our schools, are required to wear masks in nurses’ offices.
  • All students and staff, in all of our schools, are required to wear masks while on school buses, per federal law.
  • All students and staff returning from quarantine must wear masks (indoors and outdoors) for the time connected to their quarantine (up to five days after return to school).
  • Visitors are required to wear masks in all of our schools, regardless of vaccination status.
