Deer Hill Masking Discussion

Greetings Cohasset Families,

This afternoon I was informed that we have met the 80% vaccination threshold (staff and students combined) at Deer Hill Elementary School. Currently, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides schools who reach the 80% vaccination threshold with the ability to make a local decision whether masking will be optional for members within that school. I will be bringing this vaccination news forward during tomorrow evening’s Cohasset School Committee Meeting as a topic not reasonably anticipated within 48 hours advance notice of the meeting, so that the Cohasset School Committee can discuss and vote (pending receipt of DESE’s official approval) if masking will be deemed optional for students and staff at Deer Hill School. Our highly vaccinated middle school and high school are currently mask optional for all students and staff.  Joseph Osgood School has yet to make the required 80% threshold.

As always, community voice is paramount in the decision-making, and your voice is welcomed during tomorrow evening’s meeting, which begins at 6:00PM in the Cohasset Middle and High School Learning Commons. The meeting will also be live streamed on Facebook and on Zoom. Participants who are not attending in-person will need to utilize the Zoom link to have their comments and questions read by School Committee Members. Thank you in advance for your participation in this important meeting.

Sincerely,

Patrick Sullivan, Ed.D.
