Updated Isolation and Quarantine Guidance

Greetings Cohasset Families,

I wanted to update you regarding isolation and quarantine guidance that was adopted yesterday by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). As many of you know, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently made changes to their guidance related to COVID-19 isolation and quarantine durations. In a message to superintendents yesterday, DESE indicated that “The Department of Public Health (DPH) has updated the state-wide guidance which includes a reduction of the required isolation period for COVID-19 positive individuals in K-12 schools to 5 days (from 10 days in current guidance), effective immediately. We are currently working with our medical advisors and state health officials to further update the DESE/DPH Guidance on Protocols for Responding to COVID-19 Scenarios, which we will post in the coming days." Therefore, anyone currently in quarantine or who will need to quarantine due to testing positive for COVID-19, should now follow the five (5) day quarantine guidance.

Finally, we have received a few questions regarding masking / face coverings at Cohasset High School. As DESE is currently maintaining the 80% vaccination threshold, we are maintaining our current mask status (same mask status at all buildings that was in place before vacation). We will keep you all updated as DESE updates its guidance on protocols for responding to COVID-19 Scenarios or if they change the 80% vaccination threshold allowance.

Sincerely,

Patrick Sullivan, Ed.D.
