GRADE 8 INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION
Students in grade 8 may be granted the opportunity to participate in high school level sports. The high school athletic staff will notify students and families of these opportunities only when the sport is undersubscribed by high school students. Sports that have full rosters comprised of high school level students will not solicit participation from grade 8 students. This practice has allowed us to maintain junior varsity programs in several areas by allowing teams to run even when high school participation is low.
The high school junior varsity interscholastic program consists of the following areas:
-
FALL:
Cheerleading
Field Hockey
Football
Boys' Soccer
Girls' Soccer
Boys' Golf
-
WINTER:
Girls' Basketball
Boys' Basketball
Boys' Ice Hockey
-
SPRING:
Baseball
Boys' Lacrosse
Girls' Lacrosse
Softball
-
Since there are areas in athletics where no junior varsity program exists, grade 8 students may be eligible to try out for high school varsity interscholastic teams in the following sports under the same guidelines as mentioned above:
Cross Country (fall)
Gymanstics (winter)
Girls' Ice Hockey (winter)
Skiing (winter)
Swimming (winter)
Wrestling (winter)
Boys' Tennis (spring)
Girls' Tennis (spring)
Boys' Track and Field (spring)
Girls' Track and Field (spring)
Girls' Golf (spring)
