Empower Students to Improve Communities
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM School Committee Meeting
I was just informed by NASA that the originally scheduled time will now not work due to an unanticipated interruption in the signal during that time. The new time for tomorrow’s event is 1:10PM – 1:35PM. The event will still be streamed live on Facebook at Cohasset Live Streaming and can be seen on 143 TV. I have included the information regarding the event with the change in time below.
We are excited to announce that tomorrow, Wednesday, May 24 from 1:10PM - 1:35PM, Cohasset Public Schools and the Town of Cohasset will be communicating directly with Astronaut Stephen Bowen from space! We have been working behind the scenes with NASA, and we are thrilled that this event will take place for our students, staff, and community.
The event is a 25-minute downlink with two-way audio and one way video. The audience will be able to view and speak directly to Astronaut Bowen. All students and staff of Cohasset Public Schools will participate in the event, and we have selected students from all grade levels to ask questions and set to speak directly to Commander Bowen. The event will be streamed live on Facebook at Cohasset Live Streaming and can be seen on 143 TV.
NASA Astronaut Stephen G. Bowen, a Cohasset native and retired U.S. Navy captain, is the first submarine officer to selected as an astronaut by NASA. Since becoming an astronaut, Astronaut Bowen has flown on STS-126, STS-132, and STS-133 missions, and served as Commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station in March.
We are thankful to NASA and especially to Astronaut Bowen for this gracious gesture. This generosity is inspiring and is truly emblematic of Cohasset Public Schools vision of "Empowering Students to Improve Communities." We are also thankful for the wonderful collaboration with the Town of Cohasset to make this event a reality.

A reminder that the annual Spring Town Meeting will take place on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 7:00PM in the Cohasset High School and Cohasset Middle School Gymnasium. We sincerely appreciate your attendance at this important meeting for the town and for the schools. In addition to our annual budget, town members will be voting on a one-time cost approval to allow full day kindergarten to be free in Cohasset Public Schools and several paramount capital items. Your voice is appreciated. Thank you for your strong consideration regarding attending.
This Friday, April 7, 2023, is scheduled as a full school day per the Cohasset District Calendar. If your child will be absent or dismissed to observe a religious day or half-day, please inform the front office at your child’s school in writing, so that the day or half-day may be documented as excused. A reminder that in accordance with Cohasset School Committee Policy:
Absences will be excused under the following circumstances:
Thank you for helping us ensure that appropriate attendance takes place on Friday.
Greetings Cohasset Families.
We are deeply saddened by today’s school shooting in Nashville, and our thoughts go out to the victims and their loved ones. I have spoken with Chief Quigley from the Cohasset Police Department, and we will continue to have a regular police presence in our schools as we move into the final quarter of the school year.
Cohasset Schools and Cohasset Police meet often throughout the year to review safety procedures and protocols, and we are fortunate to have Officer Taylor with us as a School Resource Officer.
As students may be exposed to media coverage of this tragedy, guidance counselors at all levels will be available to meet with any student who needs to talk. I have included a useful article outlining ways to talk to children regarding traumatic events.

From Commissioner of Education Riley’s memo to Superintendents sent on August 15, 2022:
“The Commonwealth is not recommending universal mask requirements, surveillance testing of asymptomatic individuals, contact tracing, or test-to-stay testing in schools. Districts and schools are reminded that there is no longer any statewide masking mandate in schools (other than school health offices) and there is no testing requirement for schools.” We will continue to respect the right of individuals to wear masks at any time during the school day.
“Effective August 15, 2022, all students and staff in childcare, school in grades K-12, or participating in out-of-school time (OST) and recreational camp settings should follow the updated isolation and exposure guidance issued by DPH, in alignment with recently issued guidance from CDC. No asymptomatic person should be excluded from school as a result of exposure, regardless of vaccination status or exposure setting.”
