Empower Students to Improve Communities

Network & Accounts

Every student and staff member at Cohasset Public Schools has a district Google account that provides access to email, Google Workspace, and most of the district's learning platforms. This page explains how accounts work, how to connect to school Wi-Fi, and what to do when something isn't working.

Student Accounts

What account does my child have?

All Cohasset students are assigned a district Google account when they enroll. This account is used to log in to Chromebooks, Google Workspace (Classroom, Docs, Slides, Drive, etc.), Clever, Aspen, and most other district platforms. Student accounts follow the format (firstinitial,lastname,yog@cohassetk12.org). Middle & High School students have MS Outlook email accounts which are formatted the same way as their Google Accounts (firstinitial,lastname,yog@cohassetk12.org).

What grade levels have accounts?

Grades K-12 have Google Accounts but only Middle School & High School students have access to email accounts. All Middle School & High School students have Aspen accounts.

What can students access from home?

Students can access their Google account and most district platforms as well as their MS Outlook email from any device at home by visiting Google and MS Outlook and using their district credentials. Student accounts follow the format (first initial, last name, last two digits of their YOG and end with @cohassetk12.org (ex. MMouse27@cohassetk12.org).

Password help

Students - forgot your password?

Students in grades (6–12): Contact your school office or submit a help desk ticket and a member of the IT team will reset your password, typically within one business day.
Students in grades (K–5): Ask their classroom teacher for help.

Staff - forgot your password?

Staff can reset their district Google password by resetting the password on their laptop and that will automatically update their password in Google. If the password on the laptop is not working to login to Google, please submit an IT Help Desk Ticket. For access to other systems: Frontline, Harpers, Vector,  etc. if the application does not use SSO (Single Sign On) using Google credentials use the automated password reset or contact the help desk directly as each system has its own reset process.

Tips for strong, memorable passwords

  • Use a passphrase rather than a single word - three or four unrelated words strung together are both strong and memorable
  • Don't reuse your school password for personal accounts
  • Never share your password with anyone, including friends
  • If you think someone else knows your password, change it immediately and let a teacher or IT know

School Wi-Fi

Connecting a school-issued device

School-issued devices are configured to connect to the school network automatically. If your device isn't connecting, restart it first. If the problem continues, submit a help desk ticket.

Connecting a personal device

Personal devices require a one-time certificate installation before they can connect to the school network. See the Device Support page for step-by-step instructions by device type.
Network names
  • Students: CHS-BYOD or CMS-BYOD for personally owned devices. School-owned devices will automatically connect to the WiFi network.
  • Staff: All school own devices will automatically connect to the appropriate network in each building. For personal devices staff are able to connect to the "Vendor" network in each building. They can get that password from the main office in each building or by reaching out to the ITS department.
  • Guests: Guests are able to connect to the "Vendor" network in each building. They can get that password from the main office in each building or by reaching out to the ITS department.

What the network filter does

All devices connected to the school network — including personal devices — are subject to the district's content filter. The filter blocks access to inappropriate or harmful content and is active during school hours. It does not apply when students are at home on their own network.

Off-campus connectivity

The district content filtering will not apply to school owned devices when they are brought home. Content filtering at home is the responsibility of the parents or guardians.

Google Workspace for Education

Cohasset students and staff use Google Workspace for Education — a suite of tools including Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet, and Classroom. Student accounts are managed by the district, which means some features available on personal Google accounts are restricted for safety and privacy reasons.

What's included in student accounts:

  • Google Drive — store and share schoolwork
  • Google Docs, Sheets, Slides — create and collaborate on documents
  • Google Classroom — assignments, feedback, and class communication
What's restricted:
Some Google features are turned off for student accounts to protect privacy and limit distractions — for example, students cannot install Chrome extensions without teacher or IT approval, and younger students may have additional restrictions on sharing and communication. If your child needs access to a feature that appears unavailable, their teacher can request it through the IT team.

Staff accounts

New staff - getting started

New staff accounts are created during onboarding. You'll receive your district email address and temporary password from the IT team. On your first login you'll be prompted to set a new password and complete a brief account setup. Contact the help desk if you haven't received your credentials by your start date.

Substitute teachers

Substitute teachers are issued temporary guest credentials. Contact the school office before your assignment to ensure your access is set up in advance.

Software & platform access

Staff access to additional platforms — Frontline, curriculum tools, HR systems — is set up by role. If you need access to a system you don't currently have, submit a request through the help desk and your administrator will approve it.
