This page covers everything related to devices at Cohasset Public Schools — whether you're setting up a personal device to connect to our school network, dealing with a broken school-issued Chromebook, or figuring out how to print from home. If you need help that isn't covered here, submit a help desk ticket or contact your school office.

School Issued Devices

CPS has a Chromebook loaner program for students who need a laptop either for long term or short term. Please note Cohasset Public Schools prioritizes the loan of a Chromebook based on financial need. At that time due to either hardware or software limitations, manufacturers will no longer support future updates to a given device or Operating System (OS). For questions on how long a particular device, new or used, will be supported, check with the representative who you purchase the device from.

Connecting a Personal Device (BYOD)

What is BYOD?

Students may connect personal devices, laptops, tablets, or phones, to the Cohasset school network. To do this, a one-time security certificate must be installed on your device. This certificate allows your device to connect securely and ensures the district's content filtering applies. The process takes about five minutes.

Note: This certificate is only in effect while connected to a BYOD Network. If the certificate is not installed, users will not have effective access to the internet while on the CHS or CMS BYOD Networks.

Choose your device to get started

Once installed, connect to the "CHS-BYOD" or "CMS-BYOD" network using your district credentials. Your username for either BYOD network will be your firs initial, last name, and the last two digits of your YOG(ex. MMouse27) and your password will be the same as your Google password. The certificate does not need to be reinstalled unless you reset your device or reinstall your operating system.

Troubleshooting personal device connections

  • My device says "certificate not trusted" - Click on one of the above device links to install the security certificate on your device.

  • I installed the certificate but still can't connect - If you have not already done so restart your device. Also, double check that you followed the directions for installing the certificate.

  • I reset my device and now it won't connect - You may need to reinstall the security certificate. See the instructions above.

  • Who do I contact if none of this works? - You can reach out to help desk either by using the help desk form or emailing helpdesk@cohassetk12.org

BYOD devices can print to the student printer in the Learning Commons at CHMS once connected to the correct BYOD network with the certificates installed.

Device care tips

  • Use the provided case or sleeve - most damage happens in backpacks without protection
  • Charge nightly - a dead device at school disrupts the whole day
  • Keep food and drinks away from devices
  • Clean the screen with a soft dry cloth only — no cleaning sprays
  • Close the lid gently - hinges are the most common repair
  • Don't stack heavy items on top of a closed laptop
