Here are some resources for you to use at home with your growing readers. Here are some tools we use in the classroom that can also be used at home on a tablet or using a web browser. Some of these you need a license provided by the school and some are free to use. 

Lexia- Lexia® Core5® Reading supports educators in providing differentiated literacy instruction for students of all abilities in grades pre-K–5. Lexia’s research-proven program provides explicit, systematic, personalized learning in the six areas of reading instruction. (Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Structural Analysis, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension) The program will targeting skill gaps as they emerge, and providing teachers with the data and student-specific resources they need for individual or small-group instruction. Raz-Kids- CPS purchased a license for students at Osgood to have a personal account to access books at different reading levels. These books can be read by the student or they can listen to stories. Students can take the fun quizzes at the end of a story. Storyline Online- The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s award-winning children’s literacy website, Storyline Online, streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations for free. Readers include Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, James Earl Jones, Betty White and dozens more. You do not need an account. https://www.storylineonline.net/

Story Time from Space- Story Time from Space is a project of the Global Space Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education foundation.We send children’s books to the International Space Station. While in space, astronauts are videotaping themselves reading these books to the children of Earth.  https://storytimefromspace.com/

Sight Word Practice is important to help readers become more fluent because they are able to recognize words that frequently appear in texts. Some of these words you are able to sound out and some of the words are irregular and need to be memorized.
